Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy encouraged citizens in Karnataka to unite beyond caste divisions to challenge the current Congress-led government. Speaking at the JD(S) silver jubilee public convention in Hassan, Kumaraswamy emphasized the importance of unity for the state’s advancement.
He called on farmers to put aside caste differences and collaborate for the progress of Karnataka. Highlighting former Prime Minister Deve Gowda’s dedication to farmers’ welfare, Kumaraswamy mentioned Gowda’s service as Irrigation Minister for 2 years and as Chief Minister for 2.5 years.
Kumaraswamy disclosed that he waived farm loans amounting to Rs 25,000 crore, ensuring the functioning of District Cooperative Banks. He dared the opposition to showcase their support for farmers, asserting that he did not seek extra funds from the Prime Minister during that period.
He urged the people of Karnataka, particularly in Hassan district, to evaluate the current scenario. Kumaraswamy praised the BJP–JD(S) alliance for its effectiveness and noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s backing of his work in the Union Cabinet. He criticized the current state government for alleged corruption, farmer neglect, and prioritizing political power struggles over addressing farmers’ issues.
