Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, initiated the nationwide ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ emphasizing the importance of soil conservation for agricultural prosperity. The campaign advocates for balanced fertiliser use, soil health cards, natural farming, and water conservation to enhance agricultural practices. Chouhan urged farmers to refrain from excessive chemical fertiliser usage, highlighting its adverse effects on soil fertility and productivity.
The month-long campaign kickstarted from Ramasiya village in Madhya Pradesh, aiming to educate farmers on scientific soil testing and nutrient management. Under the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan,’ agricultural experts will visit villages nationwide to raise awareness about modern farming techniques and sustainable practices. Chouhan stressed the significance of Soil Health Cards in reducing cultivation costs and improving long-term soil fertility.
In his address, the Minister underscored the need for judicious fertiliser application to ensure sustainable agriculture. He announced plans for field demonstrations on soybean, paddy, and pulse crops, focusing on advanced farming technologies and water-efficient practices. Additionally, the campaign aims to empower women through employment opportunities and support for self-employment initiatives.
Chouhan highlighted the importance of youth engagement in agriculture, emphasizing skill development and employment generation in rural areas. The campaign will also address issues related to counterfeit fertilisers, promote crop diversity, and disseminate information on soil health improvement techniques. It aims to extend government schemes to farmers nationwide for enhanced agricultural productivity.
