The Union Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, unveiled the Mizoram Ginger Mission, a Rs 189.79 crore initiative aimed at enhancing ginger cultivation and value chain development in Mizoram. He emphasized the high quality of Geographical Indication-certified Mizo Ginger, containing 6-8% oleoresin, far above the global average of 3%.
The Minister advocated for empowering farmers by eliminating intermediaries and strengthening cooperative structures. He termed the initiative as the “Mizo Ginger Movement,” focusing on Convergence, Value Addition, Branding, and Market Integration. This movement aligns with PM Modi’s vision of integrating farmers into the entire agricultural value chain.
The Mission aims to establish one processing hub and three spoke centers, introduce over 30 strategic interventions, and integrate around 20,000 farming households into a unified value-chain ecosystem. It envisions expanding Mizo Ginger’s presence in international markets, ensuring traceability to individual farmers, and enhancing their economic benefits directly.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma commended the Ministry for spearheading the Ginger Mission, recognizing its significance in transforming the state’s agricultural landscape. The state government is dedicated to ensuring timely implementation on the ground, leveraging the unique strength of Mizoram in producing pharma-grade ginger.
