Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, visited the Kalinago Territory in Dominica to express India’s commitment to supporting the indigenous Kalinago community through a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Margherita highlighted India’s dedication to enhancing its friendship with Dominica under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing shared democratic values and South-South cooperation.
During the visit, Margherita inspected three Quick Impact Project (QIP) sites in Grand Bay and St. Fond Jean, emphasizing India’s ongoing support for community development in Dominica. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Vince Henderson and the Government of Dominica for their cooperation in these initiatives.
Margherita also held discussions with Dominica’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade, and Energy, Vince Henderson, focusing on strengthening partnerships across various sectors. The meetings led to the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Pharmacopoeia and a Quick Impact Project, underscoring the commitment to enhancing collaboration between the two nations.
Furthermore, Margherita met with Dominica’s Acting Prime Minister, Irving McIntyre, to explore avenues for bolstering bilateral relations and fostering people-to-people ties. He also paid a courtesy visit to Dominica’s President, Sylvanie Burtan, discussing ways to further enhance the ties between India and Dominica.
Margherita’s visit to Dominica followed his trips to Honduras and Belize, where he engaged in diplomatic discussions and cooperation. The visit underscored India’s commitment to supporting community development and strengthening bilateral relations with partner countries.
