Union Minister Piyush Goyal criticized the Opposition for obstructing a Constitution Amendment Bill related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in the Lok Sabha. He expressed disappointment, stating that the Opposition not only opposed the bill but also celebrated its blockage. Goyal highlighted that parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, and other INDI Alliance members united to prevent the bill’s progress without engaging in a debate.
Today, a scene of disruption and celebration unfolded in the Lok Sabha as crucial legislation for women’s empowerment faced resistance. The proposed bill aimed at ensuring 33% reservation for women was not just rejected but also cheered with victory slogans. Goyal condemned this behavior as a betrayal of Indian women, emphasizing the denial of rightful representation in legislative bodies due to the bill’s stalling.
Questioning the motives behind the Opposition’s actions, Goyal criticized the celebration of blocking a bill meant to empower women. He accused the parties of supporting patriarchy and suppressing women’s rights by obstructing the legislation. Goyal pointed out a broader pattern of resistance to women’s empowerment and prioritizing political gains over national advancement by the Opposition.
The Union Minister warned of political consequences, stating that women voters would remember the events. He highlighted the disconnect between the Opposition’s stance and the interests of women and the nation, emphasizing that the insult to women’s empowerment would have lasting repercussions. Goyal stressed that the Opposition’s actions would not go unnoticed and would impact future elections, including the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.
