Amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in the Gulf region, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal engaged in a series of high-level virtual discussions with key Gulf partners. These meetings emphasized the significance of supply chain resilience, stable trade flows, and enhanced economic collaboration following a recent ceasefire. Goyal, in talks with Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, expressed optimism for lasting peace and stability with the ceasefire.
He stressed the importance of dialogue as the primary means to resolve differences and highlighted the strong people-to-people connections between India and the GCC nations, which underpin their robust economic ties. Goyal assured full support from India to address any disruptions in the supply chain, particularly concerning essential food items. He commended the GCC countries for their efforts to bolster logistics networks and explore alternative trade routes.
During a separate conversation with Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi from the United Arab Emirates, Goyal welcomed the ceasefire and emphasized the crucial role of uninterrupted trade in maintaining strong bilateral relations. He extended India’s unwavering support to the UAE while condemning recent attacks, acknowledging the Emirati leadership’s assistance to the Indian diaspora during the crisis. Goyal also praised the UAE’s proactive logistics measures, including the utilization of multimodal transport and alternative routes, while highlighting India’s initiatives to support exporters and ensure a steady supply of essential goods.
In discussions with Abdulla Bin Adel Fakhro of Bahrain, both sides highlighted the necessity of restoring stability and ensuring predictable trade flows, especially through maritime routes. Goyal expressed confidence in the region’s recovery from recent disruptions and reiterated India’s solidarity with Bahrain. He condemned attacks on critical infrastructure and voiced support for maritime safety in the region.
