Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has sanctioned Rs 10,021.42 crore to 12 states for the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) to achieve ‘Housing for All’ by March 2029. The funds were disbursed via video conferencing to states including Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, and others. The scheme aims to provide quality housing with essential amenities like roads, electricity, and water to underprivileged families.
Rohit Kansal, Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, highlighted that an additional Rs 10,021 crore has been sanctioned for the current year, with a target three times higher than the previous year. The government aims to complete the housing targets in a timely manner through collaborative efforts between the Centre and States. The initiative focuses on ensuring no impoverished individual in India resides in inadequate housing conditions.
Minister Chouhan emphasized the importance of creating homes, not just houses, equipped with basic necessities for a better quality of life. He praised states for innovative measures such as helplines, grievance redressal systems, and livelihood enhancement programs that have expedited the scheme’s progress. The minister also stressed the significance of women empowerment, noting that a majority of houses sanctioned under PMAY-G are either in women’s names or under joint ownership.
Chouhan urged states to address challenges faced by poor families without land by providing necessary support and land allocation. He emphasized the need for states to resolve pending issues promptly, accelerate ongoing construction projects, and efficiently utilize allocated funds. The minister called on states to meet their approval targets by June 30, 2026, for the upcoming years.
