Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal criticized the Indian National Congress during campaign rallies in Upper Assam. He emphasized the rejection of Congress’ “failed and divisive politics” by the public. Sonowal highlighted the strong voter turnout at the rallies for BJP candidates Bolin Chetia and Taranga Gogoi in Sadiya and Naharkatia.
Sonowal accused the Congress of neglecting remote regions historically, leading to a lack of basic infrastructure and opportunities. He pointed out the party’s policies that marginalized indigenous communities, citing the controversial IMDT Act. The Minister stated that the increasing trust in the BJP-led NDA’s governance model is based on principles of peace, stability, and development.
Continuing his campaign in Naharkatia, Sonowal reiterated the NDA’s development agenda’s broad acceptance. He emphasized the rejection of Congress’ politics rooted in corruption, neglect, and division. Sonowal highlighted the NDA government’s efforts in bringing lasting peace and accelerating development in Assam, contrasting it with Congress’s legacy of instability and uncertainty.
Sonowal urged voters to provide a decisive mandate to the NDA to ensure Assam’s future prosperity. He called for ongoing support to prevent a return to what he termed as “misgovernance and neglect.”
