Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal commended the Assam Legislative Assembly’s approval of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026, as a significant achievement that will bring about social justice, equality, and effective governance in the state. Sonowal emphasized that this legislation signifies a transformative phase in Assam’s history and reflects the NDA government’s dedication to reform and inclusive governance.
The Minister highlighted that the UCC Bill will establish a structured and fair civil framework in Assam while protecting the constitutional, social, and cultural rights of the state’s indigenous and tribal communities. He also stressed the importance of the Bill in enhancing women’s empowerment, ensuring equal rights, and fostering social cohesion among different communities.
Sonowal underscored the broader reform initiatives of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting the rapid progress driven by progressive policies and governance reforms nationwide. He credited the transformative decisions to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, stating that the passage of the UCC Bill exemplifies this journey of reforms.
Additionally, Sonowal congratulated Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his leadership in advancing the Bill and securing its approval in the Assembly. He expressed his appreciation to Chief Minister Sarma for driving Assam towards a future characterized by security, fairness, and prosperity.
