Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized the importance of recent agreements between the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Department of Post, stating that they will drive economic empowerment in rural India, particularly for women and farmers.
Scindia, who serves as the Union Minister for Communications and Development of Northeastern region, made these remarks during the inauguration of a sub-post office in Badarvas area within his Lok Sabha constituency of Guna. He highlighted that the modern facilities at this sub-post office will facilitate pension, subsidy, and savings services, with postmen playing a crucial role in empowering rural communities and fostering self-reliance through Digital India connectivity.
Addressing the audience at the event, Scindia revealed that the agreements between the Department of Post and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare aim to enhance the efficiency and reliability of testing agricultural inputs, safeguarding farmers against counterfeit and substandard products. The first agreement focuses on real-time monitoring and transparent distribution of fertilizers, while the second aims to promote financial inclusion among women by encouraging them to open bank accounts through India Post Payment Bank.
These agreements were formalized in the presence of Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Jyotiraditya Scindia in New Delhi on January 7. As part of the collaboration, a nationwide logistics system will be established by the two departments for the transportation of pesticide, seed, and fertilizer samples to designated laboratories, with India Post providing logistical support throughout the process.
The partnership forms a key component of the PAN-India online pesticide, seed, and fertilizer quality management system developed by the Centre for Research and Industrial Staff Performance (CRISP).
