Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, briefed the Lok Sabha about the advancements in the Bharat 6G Alliance and the enhancement of India’s research ecosystem through the Anusandhan National Research Foundation. Under the guidance of PM Modi, the Bharat 6G Alliance has seen significant growth, aiming to contribute close to 10% of global 6G patents, with approximately 4,000 patents already submitted.
The proposal by India for ubiquitous connectivity has gained recognition from international bodies like the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Starting with 14 institutions, the Bharat 6G Alliance has now expanded to 85, forming seven working groups focusing on various aspects including spectrum, devices, technology, alliances, green initiatives, outreach, and 6G use cases.
Minister Scindia highlighted that the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), established under PM Modi’s leadership, commenced operations in February 2024 to boost innovation and research in the country. ANRF aims to raise Rs 50,000 crore in funds during 2023-28, with a budgetary allocation of Rs 14,000 crore from the Central Government, while the rest will be sourced through donations from various sectors.
