Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat criticized former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, accusing him of being unsettled by evolving political dynamics within the Congress and discussions about Sachin Pilot’s potential new role. Shekhawat highlighted Gehlot’s recent “reckless remarks,” suggesting that the veteran Congress leader is anxious about losing his long-held influential position in Rajasthan politics.
Speaking at the BJP office in Jaipur, Shekhawat pointed out that Gehlot, a prominent figure in Rajasthan Congress politics for almost four decades, makes periodic statements to maintain his political relevance. Despite projecting himself as a Gandhian leader, Gehlot’s political behavior, according to Shekhawat, contradicts this image.
Shekhawat referenced Gehlot’s advice for him to “lengthen his own line,” noting that historical instances in Rajasthan show that Congress members striving for independent political identities often face marginalization. Shekhawat, drawing inspiration from Veer Durgadas Rathore’s legacy, emphasized his commitment to public life, devoid of fear and guided by principles and ideology.
Continuing his critique, Shekhawat highlighted Gehlot’s adeptness in political management, earning him the moniker “Jadugar” (Magician) among political circles in Rajasthan. He acknowledged that political workers could learn from Gehlot’s skills in this regard. Shekhawat also welcomed the selection of Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar for the Rajya Sabha, stating that their inclusion would enhance the BJP’s representation and Rajasthan’s interests in Parliament’s Upper House.
