Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, will head the Indian team at the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva on July 6-7. This forum, established under General Assembly Resolution 79/325, aims to enhance international AI governance. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that this dialogue will support global efforts to regulate artificial intelligence effectively.
The dialogue will focus on promoting scientific understanding, transparency, accountability, and human oversight of AI systems. It will aid in building capacities, particularly in developing nations, to steer AI technologies towards sustainable development goals. The Independent International Scientific Panel on AI will present its annual report during the event, offering insights into the potentials and risks associated with AI.
Thematic discussions at the dialogue will revolve around AI’s societal and economic impacts, bridging AI disparities, ensuring safe and ethical AI practices, and upholding human rights in AI contexts. The 2026 AI Dialogue will be co-chaired by the Representatives of El Salvador and Estonia to the United Nations, appointed by the UNGA President Annalena Baerbock. The first session is scheduled in Geneva, with a subsequent session planned in New York in 2027.
