Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, has requested the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to introduce a Vande Bharat Express train service between Bengaluru and the coastal regions of Karnataka. Kumaraswamy specifically proposed a high-speed Vande Bharat train service from Bengaluru to Goa’s Madgaon via Hassan, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, and Karwar.
Extending the Vande Bharat train service along this route is seen as a significant move that would benefit the coastal region and contribute to the state’s development. Kumaraswamy highlighted that the necessary infrastructure for the high-speed train service is already in place, including the completion of electrification work along the route, including the Western Ghats section.
The proposed Vande Bharat train service connecting various key locations in Karnataka to Madgaon in Goa is expected to boost tourism in the region. Additionally, it aims to facilitate travel for pilgrims visiting religious centers in the coastal belt and benefit passengers traveling for educational and professional purposes.
Union Minister Kumaraswamy emphasized the importance of establishing direct and fast railway connectivity between Bengaluru and coastal Karnataka’s major commercial centers, port cities, tourist destinations, and Goa. He believes that this enhanced connectivity would stimulate economic activities in the region and meet the growing passenger demand effectively.
Kumaraswamy stressed that the introduction of the Vande Bharat train service aligns with the government’s vision of creating an integrated and efficient transport network. He urged the Railway Minister Vaishnaw to assess the feasibility of this initiative and provide necessary directives to the concerned officials for prompt action.
