Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy has called upon Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to swiftly take over the first phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail from Larsen and Tourbo. This move is crucial to pave the way for the project’s second phase, which the Centre is prepared to undertake in collaboration with the state government.
Kishan Reddy emphasized the need for Telangana to promptly assume control of Phase-I and submit essential proposals for the construction of Phase-II to the Central government. He expressed concerns to the Chief Minister regarding the delays in advancing Hyderabad Metro Phase-II.
The Minister highlighted that the Union Government has given its preliminary approval for Phase-II, contingent upon the completion of Phase-I takeover and the initiation of coordination through the Joint Committee, as previously agreed upon.
He urged the Telangana Chief Minister to designate state officials to the Joint Committee to facilitate immediate coordination and ensure the smooth progress of Metro expansion for the benefit of Hyderabad’s residents. Kishan Reddy also mentioned his discussions with Union Minister for Urban Development Manohar Lal Khattar about the second phase of the Metro construction.
Manohar Lal Khattar reiterated the Central government’s commitment to Phase-II development. Kishan Reddy quoted Khattar as confirming the State Government’s decision to acquire the first phase of the Metro and establish a joint committee with the Central Government for Phase-II preparation.
Kishan Reddy further stated that Khattar informed him of the committee formation plan, which involves two officials from both the State and Central governments. Despite the request for the State government to provide the names of its officials, no nominations have been put forward yet. Therefore, Kishan Reddy urged Revanth Reddy to promptly submit the officials’ names and facilitate a meeting.
