Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar will lead a significant event in Kolkata on July 14 to recognize sanitation workers and mark the 3rd National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) Day. The event, including the Divya Kala Mela, will be held at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata, West Bengal. Concurrently, various programs will occur across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) nationwide.
The Kolkata event is expected to be graced by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendhu Adhikari, along with other dignitaries like ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and officials from the Centre and the state. Additionally, district administration representatives and the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) are anticipated to participate.
On NAMASTE Day, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will conduct activities focusing on the welfare of sanitation workers. These activities will include occupational safety training, health check-up camps, facilitating government entitlements, showcasing mechanised sanitation equipment and safety gear, and acknowledging the contributions of sanitation workers.
