Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, has praised the Akal Takht Jathedar’s decision to reevaluate the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act of 2026. Bittu emphasized the importance of thorough consultations involving Sikh scholars, legal experts, Panthic institutions, and elected representatives before enacting legislation related to Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
During recent discussions, it was noted that many MLAs were unable to explain the contents or implications of the Bill they had passed in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. This revelation has raised concerns about the legislative process and the level of understanding among lawmakers regarding the approved legislation.
Bittu questioned the origins of the Bill and the extent of consultation with relevant experts and institutions before its introduction. He stressed the need for legislation concerning Guru Granth Sahib to be in alignment with Sikh principles and not driven by political motives or external influences.
The Akal Takht’s decision to allow for broader consultations and a reconsideration of the Act was deemed timely and essential by the Union Minister. This move aims to ensure that any future laws pertaining to Guru Granth Sahib are constitutionally valid, legally enforceable, and respectful of Sikh beliefs and values.
