Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted the significance of 6G technology, stating that it aims to provide equal opportunities globally beyond just faster internet speeds. Describing 6G as a crucial advancement for humanity, he emphasized its potential to create an “intelligent internet of everything” through artificial intelligence and real-time connectivity. This technology is expected to bridge the digital gap and offer advancements in sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture, particularly benefiting remote areas.
India is actively involved in the development of 6G technology, focusing on intellectual property rights and global standardization. The country has established various working groups to enhance its role in shaping international 6G standards. The Bharat 6G Alliance is aiding India in securing a position in global discussions as standards evolve.
Scindia mentioned that decisions regarding spectrum allocation for 6G will be made by global bodies like the International Telecommunication Union and 3rd Generation Partnership Project post standardization. He also praised India’s robust digital infrastructure, citing examples like Unified Payments Interface and Aadhaar, which have demonstrated the scalability of technology to serve a vast population.
India’s substantial progress in digital infrastructure, including high UPI transaction volumes and extensive broadband access, has laid a strong foundation for future digital expansion. The minister highlighted the potential of 6G to facilitate advanced applications such as remote robotic surgeries, AI-driven farming, and holographic learning, contributing to reducing accessibility disparities across various sectors.
