Two 220kV high-voltage transmission pylons near the Uch Power Plant in Dera Murad Jamali were destroyed by unknown armed individuals, with two other pylons partially damaged, as per local reports. The attack, which took place late Monday, has led to a disruption in the electricity supply to Quetta, Sibi, and various parts of Balochistan, according to the police and Pakistani daily Dawn. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Notal Police Station, where explosive devices were planted on six transmission towers carrying electricity from the Uch Power Plant to Quetta and Sibi.
Explosive devices were found on six transmission towers, resulting in the complete destruction of two pylons and partial damage to two others. The bomb disposal squad successfully defused the devices on the remaining two pylons, as confirmed by the police. The area was sealed off by Police and Frontier Corps personnel, with a spokesperson from the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) verifying that the 220kV transmission line from the Uch Power Plant was suspended, impacting several areas including Quetta and Sibi.
In a separate incident last week in Ziarat district of Balochistan, armed assailants targeted a police post, resulting in the deaths of at least nine police personnel, including two Station House Officers (SHOs). The attackers engaged in a gunfight with the police on the night of July 6, managing to breach the premises. Ziarat Deputy Commissioner Abdul Qudoos Achakzai confirmed the casualties and mentioned that the whereabouts of five police personnel remained unknown, with additional forces dispatched to locate them. The incident adds to a series of attacks on law enforcement in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
