Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, criticized Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, accusing them of obstructing the goal of a self-reliant India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Maurya’s remarks followed a social media post by Yadav, taking a dig at the BJP-led Centre after PM Modi’s fuel-saving appeal.
Maurya highlighted that despite global crude oil price surges due to the West Asia conflict, the Centre refrained from burdening consumers with the entire petrol and diesel price hike. He emphasized that the recent Rs. 3 per litre increase in fuel prices was necessary to maintain the nation’s monetary reserves.
The Deputy CM pointed out that India’s petrol and diesel price hike of Rs. 3 per litre is relatively modest compared to other countries, suggesting that while the public is understanding, politicians are critical. Maurya also commented on the Karnataka government’s withdrawal of the 2022 hijab ban order, stating that the Congress is undermining its own position through its actions.
Regarding the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak issue, Maurya assured that the government is taking stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future. He advised students to focus on preparing for the rescheduled exam on June 21 and not be misled by any distractions.
