Head coach Abhishek Nayar of UP Warriorz explained the recent batting order adjustments, attributing them to opposition strategies. He acknowledged the error in sending Harleen Deol to open against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and took full responsibility for the decision. Harleen’s struggle with the bat was evident in the past two games, with her recent opening partnership resulting in only 11 runs off 14 deliveries before being dismissed by Lauren Bell.
Nayar expressed that the decision to have Harleen open was based on the conditions, aiming for an early advantage in the powerplay. However, he admitted that the strategy did not pan out as expected. Despite the move, Kiran Navgire’s middle-order performance also fell short in the recent matches, leading Nayar to reflect on the team’s overall performance.
In the match against RCB, UP Warriorz faced a challenging 208-run chase, with Navgire scoring 1 run off 4 balls and Deol getting out for a duck. Despite the setbacks, Phoebe Litchfield’s 78 runs, supported by lower-order contributions, kept UP Warriorz competitive in a close match where they lost by only ten runs. Noteworthy was Shweta Sehrawat’s impactful cameo, scoring a quick 25 off 17 balls with three sixes and a four.
Nayar highlighted Sehrawat’s versatility, emphasizing her potential as a top-order batter while also fulfilling wicketkeeping duties. He praised her skills and expressed confidence in her ability to excel, aiming for a future in the Indian women’s team. With a strategic approach to player development, Nayar sees Sehrawat as a promising prospect for the national squad, given her talent and dedication to improving her game.
