The streaming series ‘The Tatas’ will narrate the story of the renowned Tata family, known for their significant contributions to India’s development. Adapted from Girish Kuber’s book, ‘The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation,’ the series will portray the family’s pivotal role in shaping modern India. It will delve into the family’s corporate values, industrial achievements, and philanthropic endeavors that intertwined with the nation’s progress.
The series will span across four generations of the Tata lineage, highlighting their enduring impact on India. Starting with Founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the first generation brought independent heavy industry, luxury hospitality, and scientific research to the country. The second generation, led by Sir Dorabji Tata and Sir Ratan Tata along with Lady Meharbai Tata, focused on initiatives like Tata Steel, Tata Hydro-Electric Power, and the establishment of Tata Trusts, revolutionizing philanthropy in India.
Moving forward, the third generation, represented by J.R.D. Tata, made significant strides in Indian aviation through Tata Airlines (later Air India), and in technology with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Lastly, the fourth generation, led by Ratan Naval Tata, propelled the Tata empire onto the global stage, emphasizing modernization and international acquisitions, while introducing consumer favorites like Titan.
Writer Karan Vyas emphasized the series’ historical significance, stating that it encapsulates not just corporate history but the foundational narrative of modern India. The collaboration with Almighty Motion Picture aims to present the Tata family’s story with the grandeur it deserves, blending personal relationships with historical context. The series, a follow-up to ‘Made in India: A Titan Story,’ is co-produced by T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture.
