Despite it being a holiday, the Delhi High Court has set an urgent hearing for Sunday afternoon regarding a plea by Gitanjali J. Angmo, wife of educationist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his continued hospitalization at Safdarjung Hospital. Angmo seeks Wangchuk’s immediate discharge and transfer to a medical facility chosen by the family. The matter will be heard by Justice Mini Pushkarna.
Angmo’s writ petition argues that Wangchuk was forcibly taken from the protest site at Jantar Mantar and moved to Safdarjung Hospital without consent or prior notice to the family. The petition asserts that there was no medical emergency justifying this action. It requests Wangchuk’s release from the hospital and transfer to a facility of his choice.
The plea also demands unrestricted access for Wangchuk to his legal counsel and the doctors who monitored his health during the hunger strike. Allegations include authorities refusing to relocate Wangchuk to another hospital, denying access to medical records, and discrepancies in medical reports. The petition highlights concerns over Wangchuk’s health condition and the need for independent assessment.
