Uruguay secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Austria in the 5/8th place match at the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 in Hyderabad, Telangana. Teresa Viana (21′, 44′) and Captain Manuela Vilar (4′) were the goal scorers for Uruguay. In another match, Wales triumphed over Korea with a 2-1 scoreline in the same round.

India, already qualified for the Women’s World Cup 2026, is now aiming for the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 title as they prepare to face Italy in the semifinals. India topped Pool B with seven points, securing wins and a draw in the group stage matches. They confirmed their World Cup qualification as the highest fourth-placed team across the qualifying events.

With a ninth global ranking, India’s strong performance ensures their World Cup berth. The hosts will face Italy in the semifinals, where India holds a psychological edge having won five out of seven previous encounters since 2012. Forward Navneet Kaur, a standout performer with four goals, will be a key player for India, while Italy will rely on Federica Carta, who has scored three goals in the competition.
