US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy to South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, expressed the United States’ intention to enhance commercial relations with Assam under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership. Gor, attending Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati, mentioned on social media the honor of being invited and highlighted the existing commercial connections between the United States and Assam. The envoy’s presence at the event signifies a growing international focus on Assam and the Northeast region, particularly in trade, connectivity, energy, and investment sectors.
The swearing-in ceremony saw Sarma taking the oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term after the NDA’s significant victory in the Assam Assembly elections. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath to Sarma at a grand ceremony in Guwahati, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other top BJP and NDA leaders. Alongside Sarma, four other ministers, including Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog, also took their oaths.
