US forces have carried out consecutive strikes on Iran to diminish its capacity to threaten navigation freedom in the Strait of Hormuz, as announced by the United States Central Command. The US holds Iran responsible for recent unwarranted hostilities against commercial shipping and civilian crews navigating the crucial international waterway. Over 20 US Navy warships were actively patrolling Middle Eastern waters on the same day.
President Donald Trump, during the NATO summit in Ankara, cautioned of potential further strikes against Iran by the US military. Trump emphasized a strong response, stating, “We’re going to hit them hard tonight,” while expressing a desire to avoid a full-scale conflict with Iran. In response, Iran’s Press TV reported that Iran would retaliate by closing the Strait of Hormuz and targeting double the number of sites if faced with a fresh US attack.
Tensions escalated between the US and Iran with both sides engaging in fresh attacks from Tuesday night into Wednesday. The US Central Command confirmed conducting strikes on Iran for the second consecutive day, coinciding with reports of explosions in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province. Multiple blasts were reported in various Iranian locations, including Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, Sirik counties, and the Island of Abu Musa, with additional explosions in the southeastern Chabahar County.
