US President Donald Trump announced fresh airstrikes on Iranian military targets, accusing Iran of breaching the ceasefire by attacking an oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz. The US Central Command stated that the strikes were in response to Iran’s alleged drone attack on the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Kiku.
The tanker, carrying over two million barrels of crude oil, was targeted while transiting near the Strait of Hormuz. Trump revealed in a Truth Social post that US aircraft hit Iranian missile and drone storage locations, along with coastal radar sites, as a response to the ceasefire violation.
The President warned that if the attacks persist, the Islamic Republic of Iran “will no longer exist.” CENTCOM mentioned that Iran was given a chance to adhere to the ceasefire after previous US strikes in response to an attack on M/V Ever Lovely. However, Iran’s alleged drone attack on M/T Kiku led to the latest US military operation.
US military aircraft targeted various Iranian military facilities, including surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities. Despite the ceasefire agreement earlier in the week, the US accused Iran of ongoing aggression against commercial shipping in the region.
