US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed the United States’ interest in assisting India with its increasing energy needs. Rubio highlighted India’s focus on diversifying energy sources and emphasized the potential for stronger cooperation between the two countries to enhance long-term energy security. He mentioned that the US has solutions to contribute to India’s energy diversification efforts.
Rubio connected the issue to President Donald Trump’s initiatives to ease tensions in the Middle East and stabilize global energy markets. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a diverse supply base for India’s long-term energy security. Rubio also mentioned Venezuela as a potential future crude oil source for India, noting efforts to boost Venezuela’s production capacity.
Highlighting the strategic interests shared by Washington and New Delhi, Rubio underscored the commonalities between the two largest and oldest democracies. He emphasized the alignment on various issues such as economics, supply chains, critical minerals, energy, security, and freedom of navigation. Energy cooperation stands as a significant aspect of the India-US strategic partnership, reflecting the growing trade in oil and LNG and expanded collaboration in civil nuclear energy and clean energy technologies.
