US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been appointed by President Donald Trump to oversee the implementation of the post-operation strategy in Venezuela. This strategy encompasses diplomatic, economic, financial, and military approaches, according to the White House. Stephen Miller, a close adviser to the president, mentioned that Rubio will be responsible for enforcing the president’s directives and coordinating efforts across various government agencies.
The White House emphasized that this initiative involves a comprehensive whole-of-government approach. Miller highlighted the significance of Rubio’s role, stating that he will be leading the process in areas such as energy policy, Treasury policy, financial policy, and military policy. He also underscored the extensive coordination within the administration, describing it as a collective effort involving a team of individuals.
In response to inquiries about the management of Venezuela following recent developments, Miller pointed out key measures taken by the US. He mentioned the imposition of an oil embargo on Venezuela, emphasizing the need for US approval for any commercial activities by the country. Additionally, Miller highlighted the continued US military presence in the region, stating that the US maintains control over the terms and conditions in the area.
Miller dismissed suggestions of independent actions by Venezuelan authorities, asserting that there is direct cooperation between the government of Venezuela and the United States. He expressed optimism that this collaboration would bring about positive economic changes within Venezuela. Miller also emphasized the mutual benefits for the US, including economic gains and enhanced security cooperation in various areas such as counter-narcotics and counter-terrorism efforts.
Describing the Venezuela operation as a significant achievement, Miller characterized it as a strategic shift and a military victory for the US. He refrained from commenting on the possibility of similar actions being replicated elsewhere, emphasizing the unique nature of the operation in Venezuela.
