US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by his wife Jeanette Rubio, toured the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra and the Amber Fort in Jaipur, India. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor joined them during the visit to these historical sites.
Sharing moments from their trip, Ambassador Gor expressed his delight at revisiting the Taj Mahal with Secretary Rubio and others, highlighting its significance as a symbol of India’s rich heritage and craftsmanship. Last year, US Vice President J D Vance also visited the Taj Mahal during his official trip to India with his family.
After exploring Agra, Rubio and his wife proceeded to Jaipur, marking Rubio’s first visit to the city. The Jaipur district administration, along with security agencies, made elaborate arrangements for a ceremonial reception at the Amber Fort, showcasing Rajasthan’s traditional culture through folk performances.
In preparation for Rubio’s visit, security measures were heightened, with officials conducting thorough inspections of travel routes, event venues, and accommodations. A comprehensive traffic and crowd management plan was put in place to ensure a smooth visit without disruptions, focusing on maintaining cleanliness and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of tourist sites like the Amber Palace.
Rubio’s visit to India, spanning Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi from May 23 to 26, aims to bolster cooperation between the two countries in various sectors such as trade, defense, energy, and strategic affairs.
