US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated America’s dedication to Kuwait’s security and denounced Iranian assaults on Kuwait during discussions with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al Sabah in Washington. The meeting, held at the State Department’s Foggy Bottom headquarters, followed an attack on Kuwait International Airport that resulted in casualties. Rubio emphasized the US commitment to Kuwait’s security, preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, and ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The talks highlighted the US’s ongoing focus on Gulf security amidst escalating tensions in West Asia involving Iran, Israel, and the US. Rubio condemned Iran’s attacks on Kuwait International Airport and expressed sympathy for the victims. The US government stands in solidarity with the people of Kuwait during this challenging period. The mention of the Strait of Hormuz underscores the critical global energy supply route and the importance of international shipping in the region.
India also condemned the attack on Kuwait International Airport, where an Indian national lost their life and others were injured. India reiterated its stance against targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure during conflicts in West Asia. The Indian embassy is providing assistance to those affected by the attack and maintaining close coordination with local authorities for the welfare of Indian nationals.
In response to the situation, the US government advised caution to American citizens in Kuwait due to recent drone and missile attacks on the airport. The US State Department urged travelers to follow instructions from local authorities and airport officials. The attack in Kuwait is of particular concern to India due to its large expatriate community in the Gulf nation, with nearly a million Indians residing and working there.
