A US Senator expressed support for the alignment of the United States, Ukraine, and Europe in negotiating an end to the conflict in Ukraine. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker praised the unity among Western nations, stating that it has shifted the balance against Russia. Wicker credited President Donald Trump for fostering this alignment, enabling the West to engage Putin from a position of strength.
Recent battlefield developments in Ukraine were highlighted by Wicker to counter Moscow’s portrayal of the conflict. He pointed out that Ukraine’s successful retaking of Kupiansk and Russia’s failure to seize Pokrovsk contradict Putin’s narrative. Wicker emphasized that Ukraine’s ability to out-innovate Russia has been a significant factor in the ongoing conflict.
The Senator commended European allies for their increased support, following President Trump’s encouragement to rebuild their industrial base. Wicker accused Moscow of spreading false claims to undermine diplomatic efforts, noting that Putin sees Western unity as a threat to his objectives. He emphasized Ukraine’s readiness for peace on fair terms, cautioning against any settlement that would force Kyiv to surrender territory.
Wicker called for greater military assistance to Ukraine, particularly in air defenses and long-range strike weapons. He stressed the importance of credible security guarantees for Ukraine to achieve a lasting cessation of hostilities. The Senator welcomed Trump’s proposal to submit these guarantees to the Senate, highlighting the need for broad bipartisan support for Ukraine.
