An 83-year-old tourist from the USA, John David Anderson, passed away while staying on a houseboat at Dal Lake in Kashmir. Anderson was taken to a nearby hospital after complaining of chest discomfort, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of his death.
Houseboats, commonly used as luxury tourist accommodations in Kashmir’s Dal and Nigeen Lakes, offer unique wood-panelled rooms, modern amenities, and local cuisine. With the summer season beginning, tourists, both domestic and foreign, are visiting Kashmir in significant numbers. The region had faced a setback in tourism following a terrorist attack last year but has since seen efforts to revive the industry.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah played a key role in boosting tourism post the attack, engaging with industry leaders and promoting confidence among tourists. His initiatives, along with the hospitality of the local community, have encouraged tourists to return to Kashmir, showing faith in the region’s appeal.
