A United States trade team is scheduled to visit India next week to continue discussions between the two nations, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs. The MEA spokesperson mentioned that positive and constructive engagement has characterized the previous interactions between India and the US, with talks set to progress during the upcoming visit.
During April, an Indian trade team visited the United States, and the upcoming discussions are expected to build upon the progress made during that visit. The MEA emphasized that the ongoing engagement has been fruitful, with both sides maintaining a positive approach towards the negotiations.
While specific details about the agenda of the upcoming discussions were not disclosed by the MEA, it was indicated that the trade negotiations between India and the US are moving forward in a constructive manner. Responding to concerns about a viral video depicting alleged racism against Indians in the US, the MEA reiterated India’s stance against any form of racism, emphasizing its unequivocal rejection of such behavior.
US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, highlighted the strong partnership between India and the US, particularly in leveraging new opportunities in technology. He emphasized the significance of the India-US relationship as a key partnership for the 21st century, underscoring the potential for collaboration in various domains.
In May, it was announced that the US trade team, led by the chief negotiator, will visit India from June 1–4 to finalize an interim agreement and advance negotiations under the broader bilateral trade agreement. The discussions are expected to cover key areas such as market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion, and economic security alignment.
