Emphasizing deep respect for India, US Under Secretary of War for Policy, Elbridge Colby, highlighted India’s significant strategic influence in shaping the future of the Indo-Pacific region. Colby, during a session at the Ananta Centre, acknowledged India’s proud strategic tradition and its pivotal role in international affairs.
Colby, currently in India for engagements with senior officials, underscored the crucial nature of the India-US relationship. He described India not just as a key partner but as an essential one for maintaining a favorable balance of power in Asia, considering its size, economic potential, and strategic location.
Recognizing India’s indispensable role, Colby outlined Washington’s interests-based and realistic approach towards the strategic partnership. He stressed the alignment of Indian and US perspectives, highlighting India’s strategic autonomy and growing capacity to influence global events.
Referring to the US-India Major Defence Partnership framework signed last October, Colby emphasized the need to build upon these agreements to enhance both countries’ contributions to a stable balance of power in the region.
