The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, has named Acting DGP Rajeev Krishna as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state. This decision comes after a notification signed by Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Prasad was released on Sunday. Rajeev Krishna, who has been serving as the Acting DGP, will now take over as the permanent police chief, ending a four-year vacancy for the top post.
The appointment of Rajeev Krishna as the DGP follows deliberations by a panel of three senior officers recommended by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Among the officers considered were Renuka Mishra, Piyush Anand, and Rajeev Krishna, with the state government ultimately choosing Rajeev Krishna for his administrative experience and expertise in law enforcement.
Rajeev Krishna’s extensive three-decade career in policing includes roles in intelligence operations, law-and-order maintenance, and police modernization. Before his current position, he served as Director General (Intelligence) and Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. His appointment aligns with the state government’s focus on crime control, technology-driven policing, and ensuring a safe environment for investment.
Throughout his career, Rajeev Krishna has held key positions in various districts, including Lucknow, Agra, Mathura, Etawah, and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida). His notable achievements include leading successful operations against bandit gangs during his tenure in Etawah. Born on June 26, 1969, in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Rajeev Krishna joined the Indian Police Service in 1991 and rose through the ranks to become the Director General of Police in February 2024.
