Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has declared a 50% cut in the state’s official fleet, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for energy conservation. Emphasizing the national interest, Dhami highlighted the need for collective efforts in preserving resources. He urged citizens, officials, and representatives to reduce vehicle usage, promote public transport, and embrace energy conservation as a mass movement.
In response to global challenges affecting supply chains and fuel costs, the Uttarakhand government is implementing short-term and long-term reforms. Notable decisions include reducing the number of vehicles for the Chief Minister and Ministers by half. Additionally, the government plans to observe “No Vehicle Day” once a week and enhance public bus services.
The state is set to introduce an Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, mandating that 50% of new government vehicle purchases be electric. Furthermore, measures will be taken to expand EV infrastructure and charging stations. The Cabinet also aims to boost domestic tourism through initiatives like the “Visit My State” campaign, promoting various tourism circuits.
To encourage sustainable practices, the government will focus on clean energy initiatives, including expanding Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections and promoting rooftop solar systems. Efforts will also be made to enhance agriculture practices, promote balanced fertiliser use, and support biogas plants in rural areas.
