As part of “Operation Prahar,” aimed at maintaining sanctity at Badrinath Dham, Uttarakhand Police took action against four Nepalese individuals caught with non-vegetarian food and liquor near the shrine. During a routine check, police found over 12 kg of chicken, fish, and three bottles of liquor in their possession, which are strictly banned in the area. The individuals, identified as Ghanshyam Damai, Manbahadur, Sandeep, and Dattakami, faced legal proceedings for violating the rules.
Badrinath Dham, a revered pilgrimage site, strictly prohibits the entry of meat, fish, and alcohol to uphold religious traditions. Police emphasized that such actions not only breach regulations but also offend the sentiments of devotees. The recovered items were disposed of, and authorities affirmed their commitment to upholding the shrine’s sanctity through continued enforcement under Operation Prahar. Strict measures will be taken against any violators in the future.
The Char Dham Yatra has seen a significant rise in pilgrim numbers this year, with over eight lakh devotees visiting Lord Badrinath within 40 days of the temple opening. To manage the increasing footfall, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee has introduced a contribution-based system for VIP ‘darshan’. A dedicated VIP office near the temple will issue passes for protocol ‘darshan’ to ensure a smooth and organized visit for dignitaries and ordinary pilgrims alike.
