Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman Shadab Shams has called for prompt registration of Waqf properties on the UMMEED portal following an extended deadline. The initiative aims to safeguard Waqf assets and ensure their benefits reach the needy in the Muslim community. Shams highlighted the significance of the Waqf Amendment Act, expressing hope for impoverished Muslims.
Through the UMMEED Act, there is now an opportunity to expose and halt the alleged exploitation of Waqf properties. Shams emphasized the historical misuse of these properties, pointing out the Modi government’s efforts to address this issue. The Chairman urged individuals to utilize the UMMEED portal for registering their Waqf properties without delay.
Shams underscored the importance of proper utilization of Waqf properties for the welfare of the community. He expressed optimism that these properties could provide housing for the poor and generate employment opportunities for the unemployed. The Central Ministry of Minority Affairs initiated the digitization of Waqf properties post the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament.
The Supreme Court intervened in the matter of unregistered Waqf properties, authorizing state Waqf tribunals to decide on extending the registration deadline. In Uttarakhand, separate tribunals have been established for the Garhwal and Kumaon regions to handle Waqf-related issues. The tribunals have set deadlines for online registration of Waqf properties in these regions.
