After a period of uncertainty and negotiations, V.D. Satheesan has been given the green light by the Congress high command to be sworn in as Kerala’s new Chief Minister. This marks the return of the Congress party to the top leadership position in the state after a significant gap since Oommen Chandy’s tenure in 2011.
The swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to be a grand political event at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, with an expected gathering of nearly one lakh people. Notable Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjuna Kharge are slated to attend, alongside Chief Ministers from Karnataka and Telangana.
The entire cabinet is expected to take the oath alongside Satheesan. The upcoming first session of the new Assembly is scheduled for Thursday, where the newly elected MLAs, including Satheesan and 21 others, will be sworn in to govern the state for the next five years.
The United Democratic Front leadership is currently in discussions to finalize the cabinet composition, focusing on the allocation of Ministers from each of the allies. The decision in favor of Satheesan came after extensive consultations at the highest levels of the Congress leadership, with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi playing key roles in ensuring consensus within the party.
