India’s Veer Chotrani, ranked 47th globally, secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Hamburg Open squash tournament by defeating German player Raphael Kandra 3-0 in the men’s second round. Chotrani’s impressive performance led to a quick victory over Kandra in straight games, finishing the match in just 30 minutes with scores of 11-8, 11-7, 11-7.
In contrast, Chotrani’s compatriots Abhay Singh, seeded fifth, and Ramit Tandon, seeded seventh, were eliminated in the second round. Singh was defeated by Sam Todd from England with a score of 9-11, 11-7, 4-11, 2-11, while Tandon lost to Balazs Farkas from Hungary with a score of 10-12, 11-4, 5-11, 9-11.
Sam Todd, who will be competing in the quarterfinals of a bronze-level event for the first time, displayed exceptional squash skills to defeat Singh. Todd, a two-time copper-level title winner this season, will face the tournament’s third seed, Fares Dessouky, in the quarterfinals on Friday.
In the women’s category, former world No. 10 Joshna Chinappa was defeated by Joelle King, the eighth seed, with scores of 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-4. Meanwhile, Spain’s Marta Dominguez secured a spot in the quarterfinals of a Bronze event for the first time by defeating Malliff, the sixth seed. Dominguez broke a streak of six consecutive defeats against the Englishwoman to advance to her first Bronze quarterfinal with scores of 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 11-3.
