The death toll from the twin earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June 24 has climbed to 3,535, with 16,740 individuals sustaining injuries, as per National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez. Rodriguez also mentioned that 17,854 people are currently homeless, with 6,462 individuals rescued and 86,794 families receiving aid. Additionally, 17,345 people were reported displaced in an earlier official statement.
Since the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes struck, Venezuela has experienced 995 aftershocks. Authorities have established 80 temporary camps to assist those affected. A total of 29,567 rescuers, including 3,281 from abroad, are still actively searching for survivors. Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, declared a seven-day national mourning period to honor the victims of the devastating earthquakes.
In the wake of the tragedy, Indian medical teams are providing humanitarian assistance under ‘Operation Amistad’ to those affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela. Survivors and their families have expressed gratitude for the care received at the Indian Army’s Field Hospital. Videos shared by the Ministry of External Affairs show individuals praising the Indian medical team for their support and medical aid.
