Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodriguez announced that the recent earthquakes in the country have tragically claimed the lives of 2,595 people, with over 12,000 others injured and 189 buildings destroyed. Rodriguez, who leads the command center for temporary camps, urged health workers, security personnel, and firefighters to register on the Patria platform to assist those affected by the housing crisis resulting from the earthquakes.
Currently, 25 temporary camps are operational, with 13 in La Guaira, eight in Caracas, two in Miranda, one in Carabobo, and one in Yaracuy. Authorities are swiftly working to equip these camps and relocate affected individuals there. Venezuela has experienced 782 aftershocks since June 24, although their frequency and intensity have decreased over time.
In response to the devastating earthquakes, Rodriguez has declared a seven-day period of national mourning to honor the victims. She expressed solidarity with those affected by the tragedy and emphasized the country’s commitment to support and protect them during this difficult time. The earthquakes, measuring 7.5 and 7.2 in magnitude, struck north of Caracas, leaving tens of thousands still unaccounted for.
