Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, has announced three crucial steps to aid in the recovery and reconstruction efforts following two powerful earthquakes that hit the country’s northern regions. These measures include deploying debris-removal equipment from private firms, setting up a $200 million assistance fund, and offering special credit lines to affected businesses. National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez highlighted these actions as vital responses to the unprecedented earthquakes that recently struck Venezuela.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Yvan Gil revealed that Venezuela is actively coordinating international aid efforts. Numerous countries, including those from the region and beyond, have shown solidarity and offered support to Venezuela during this challenging time. The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, caused extensive damage in La Guaira and the Caracas metropolitan area.
In a show of solidarity, several world leaders have extended their support to Venezuela and pledged assistance in the aftermath of the earthquakes, which tragically resulted in 32 fatalities and over 700 injuries. US President Donald Trump expressed Washington’s readiness to assist Venezuela, directing government agencies to prepare for swift action in response to the disasters.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also stood in solidarity with Venezuela, announcing preparations for aid to the South American nation. She emphasized the coordination of support, including specialized personnel in rescue and healthcare. Additionally, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele confirmed readiness to dispatch 300 rescuers and paramedics, along with essential supplies, to Caracas for assistance.
