The mortal remains of veteran CPI leader R. Nallakannu, who passed away in Chennai at 101, will be donated to the Chennai Medical College Hospital as per his wish to support medical education. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the Tamil Nadu government will give Nallakannu full State honors before transferring his body. Tamil Nadu will bid farewell to Nallakannu with utmost respect, recognizing his life of sacrifice and public service.
The body of Nallakannu is currently at Balan House, the CPI’s office in Thyagaraya Nagar, for public homage until 3 p.m. Following this, party cadres will lead a procession before donating his body to the medical college hospital. Nallakannu had been receiving treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital since February 1 for age-related ailments. Despite intensive care, his condition deteriorated, leading to his passing due to multiple organ failure.
Leaders from various political parties, including Chief Minister Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, AIADMK leaders, Congress State president, PMK president, BJP leaders, VCK leader, and Naam Tamilar Katchi chief, paid their respects to Nallakannu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Nallakannu for his selfless service to society, while AIADMK General Secretary hailed him for his integrity and moral strength. Notable film personalities like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and others also honored Nallakannu for his simplicity, commitment to ideology, and dedication to the people.
