Returning to competitive swimming after a break following the Paris Olympics, veteran Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash is eyeing a podium finish at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Asian Games in September. Prakash, 32, qualified for both events by meeting the Swimming Federation of India’s standards in the men’s 200m butterfly.
Understanding the importance of rest and recovery, Prakash emphasized that these elements are integral to training. He acknowledged the need for recovery, especially as athletes age, highlighting the significance of rest in enhancing performance. Prakash expressed his determination to achieve his goals at the upcoming competitions.
Having spent over two decades in swimming, Prakash recognizes the need to adjust his training approach with age. He emphasized the tight competition expected at the Commonwealth Games, where small margins will determine success. Prakash stressed the importance of adapting and evolving as an athlete to meet the challenges ahead.
Prakash’s return to swimming post-burnout has been supported by his partnership with former teammate Sandeep Sejwal, who now coaches him. Sejwal, an Asian Games medallist, provides valuable insights based on his experience in the sport. Prakash is focused on a specialized training program for the 200m butterfly event, aiming to optimize his performance.
