Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan spoke at the 51st Annual Convocation of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, highlighting the healthcare infrastructure’s growth in the past decade to enhance healthcare accessibility. He noted that the expansion of AIIMS nationwide signifies the country’s integration. Graduates were urged to maintain AIIMS’ esteemed legacy and lead the future of medicine globally. The event saw the awarding of 523 degrees in various healthcare programs, along with 18 medals and prizes recognizing academic excellence.
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda praised AIIMS New Delhi as more than just an academic and healthcare institution, emphasizing its national prominence. He stressed the role of AIIMS students in guiding new AIIMS establishments across India. Nadda mentioned significant improvements in India’s healthcare sector over the last 11 years, with substantial investments in AIIMS infrastructure. The government’s efforts have increased the number of AIIMS from 7 to 23 and medical colleges from 387 to 825. Plans are underway to add 10,000 undergraduate and postgraduate seats by 2029. Nadda also highlighted AIIMS New Delhi’s robust research commitment, with over 900 external research projects and substantial funding.
