Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan is set to embark on a three-day tour of Karnataka, Goa, and Kerala, commencing this Friday. His itinerary includes attending official functions, as well as religious and cultural festivities. In Bengaluru, Karnataka, he will participate in the global celebration marking the 45th anniversary of the Art of Living Foundation.
Moving on, the Vice President will join the Platinum Jubilee festivities of University BDT College of Engineering in Davangere, Karnataka, on the same day. The following day, May 30, he will be part of the Statehood Day observances in Panaji, Goa, and visit the CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography.
On May 31, Vice President Radhakrishnan will visit the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple and inaugurate the SIRI Industrial Park in Belthangady, Karnataka. Subsequently, he will travel to Kerala to mark the 140th Foundation Anniversary of Deepika Malayalam Daily in Kottayam and attend a private event in Kannur hosted by C. Sadanandan Master, a Member of Parliament.
In a recent development, Vice President Radhakrishnan, in his role as Rajya Sabha Chairman, appointed BJP Member Raghav Chadha as the new Chairman of the Committee on Petitions of the Upper House. This decision followed the reconstitution of the Committee on May 20, with other members including Jebi Mather Hisham, Harsh Mahajan, Gulam Ali, Mayank Kumar Nayak, Masthan Rao Yadav Beedha, Subhasish Khuntia, Rwngwra Narzary, Sandosh Kumar P., and Shambhu Sharan Patel.
Chadha’s appointment holds significance given his recent switch from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alongside six other MPs. In a notable political move, seven Rajya Sabha MPs defected from the AAP to the BJP in April, resulting in a reduced AAP representation in the Upper House. Chadha also met President Droupadi Murmu to discuss alleged misuse of state resources by the AAP-led government in Punjab.
