Vidarbha’s Aman Mokhade made history in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by becoming the third cricketer to score 800 runs in a single season. During the final match against Saurashtra, the 25-year-old achieved this milestone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru. Mokhade, a right-handed opener, reached the landmark in the 11th over of Vidarbha’s innings, finishing the season with 814 runs.
Aman Mokhade’s exceptional performance included an unbeaten 138 in the semifinal against Karnataka. Despite missing the chance to break the record for most runs in a single edition, he managed to equal the record for most centuries in a Vijay Hazare Trophy season. His five centuries matched the feat of Narayan Jagadeesan and Karun Nair.
Notably, Prithvi Shaw was the first to surpass the 800-run mark in a Vijay Hazare Trophy season, scoring 827 runs for Mumbai in 2020-21. This record was later surpassed by Jagadeesan from Tamil Nadu, who amassed 830 runs in the 2022-23 season. Aman Mokhade is also setting records at the List A level, being the joint-fastest batter globally to reach 1,000 List A runs in just 16 innings.
