The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) revealed its candidates for three constituencies in Puducherry following a disagreement with the Congress over seat distribution within the DMK-led alliance. The Uzhavarkarai constituency, initially assigned to VCK, saw Congress fielding a candidate despite the understanding. This move led to tensions between the allies as VCK accused the Congress nominee of having past ties with RSS and BJP, questioning alliance loyalty.
The VCK’s attempts to resolve the issue with the Congress unit in Puducherry failed, resulting in uncertainty within the alliance and raising doubts about coalition coordination. With the nomination withdrawal deadline passed, VCK proceeded to announce its candidates in the contested constituencies. The party emphasized the broader concerns raised by Congress’ actions on the alliance’s electoral prospects in Puducherry.
Urging voter support for its nominees, VCK reiterated its commitment to defeating the BJP-led alliance and establishing a government focused on social justice, harmony, and development. The party nominated Pe. Ariyaputhri alias Arimaththamizan for Oussudu, Pa. Amudavan for Nettapakkam, and Selva Pushpalatha for Uzhavarkarai. This development highlights the growing tensions within the Opposition alliance in Puducherry ahead of the upcoming elections.
